It is my path and I will travel it

I guess this is some of what it is all about. Each person has their own path to follow and each person makes their own path. Right now my path is uphill and the ground under my feet is unstable. I am gaining. I am making poor choices in the evenings and on weekends. I know what is going on and I am working to correct it.

Elimination of some of the stress will happen within the next several weeks. Refocusing my energy towards eating right will begin sooner than that. And getting back to the gym will begin tomorrow. Tomorrow morning in fact. Which brings me to what happened to me this weekend.

All bright eyed and bushy tailed I went out Saturday for a run. HA HA. I have not run since Turkey Day. 500 yards in my breathing was labored and I was struggling. I slowed to a walk to regain composure and started to run again. 300 more yards or so and I realized what was happening. I was having an asthma attack. I slowed to a walk and controlled my breathing for the remainder of my time out. 1.58 miles total. I was hoping run, but the walk was good and I am sore.

So the lesson is, you lose so much of what you gained when you do not maintain. I did not mean for it to rhyme but... Maybe MizFit can use it sometime.

So tune in tomorrow to see if I made it to the gym first thing in the morning.

Good for geting out. Exercise - induced asthma. Believe it or not, but that get's better the more you exercise.
The first day of a routine? Conquer it!

so sorry about the gains! The holidays have a way of making us lose focus. Hey, it's February.......Spring and Summer are on the way......focus on that and the rest will take care of itself ;)

Good job on getting back to the exercise! It will help you with dealing with some of that stress in the upcoming weeks...and actually, it can also help in making better eating choices too (it does for me anyway - I try to visualize how long it would take to suffer through a workout to get rid of the calories in something...and I usually decide that the food isn't worth it, heh. Anyway...)

I want to comment on this though: "you lose so much of what you gained when you do not maintain" - one fantastic thing about having done exercise in the past is that your body will bounce back more quickly when you restart it. I suspect you've already seen that with the 45 minutes on the elliptical that you posted about today. It's true that when you don't exercise you lose fitness, but it will come back, and it'll come back faster than you think. You'll be back to running within a month, I bet. Good luck! :)

Congrats for getting out there and being so open about this. I just started my own "Get back into shape and lose weight" attitude. Keep in mind (one thing I've learned) is the pounds come and go, but if you get a routine it'll be harder to add them. Another thought is are you sure it is weight and not muscle? Once you start working out and drinking more water you put on weight as well. This was my downfall the last time I tried. Well from one KC girl, I wish you luck on your journey.
